GVC was established in 2003 to provide specialized security consultancy services to organizations, large and small, in Crisis Resolution Planning, Risk Management, Business Continuity Planning, Emergency Response, Security Management, Staff Recruitment/ Vetting and Other Services.

GVC provides an outsourcing agency for commercial, government, charitable or non-government organisations who wish to access world’s best practice from Security Professionals. This can be as an adjunct to the services provided by an in house Security Professional or as a support agency to a department or individual given responsibility for Crisis Resolution Planning, Risk Management, Business Continuity Planning, Emergency Response, Security Management, Staff Recruitment/ Vetting and Other Services.

GVC consultants have been selected for their wealth of hands-on practical security consulting experience in high, medium and low risk environments. They all have a military, government, or police background at senior levels and have a minimum of 10 years experience. This practical experience is complemented by tertiary education qualifications ranging from MBA to advanced  Middle Eastern studies. A number of our consultants have US Government security clearances and some are multilingual. They all have good written and verbal communications skills and are committed to providing high quality, organization specific advice.

Construction Industry

Construction SecurityProblem: A construction company is submitting a proposal in response to a Request for Tender for the provision of critical infrastructure development in Afghanistan. The company has little knowledge of the threat its personnel will face or what it will cost to protect them.
Solution: GVC is able to review the project and provide guidelines for required services and costings in order to allow an estimated costing to be included in the proposal.

NGO Sector

Kabul Airport AfghanistanProblem: An NGO has received a quote from a well known security provider for the provision of services in a medium to high risk location. The project manager has no idea if the proposal is adequate or excessive and if the proposed cost is in line with industry norms.
Solution: GVC acts as the Company representative conducting a due diligence check on all security proposals for the client. GVC is able to provide management services to oversee the implementation of the security services and act at all times in the Company’s best interests.

Problem : An NGO working in Afghanistan wanted to review the security measures in place for its staff. It knew they probably needed to do more but did not know where to start.
Solution: GVC was able to travel to Kabul and other operating locations and review all physical and procedural security measures in place and make recommendations on improving not only these measures but also the organisation’s ability to respond to a crisis when and if it struck.

Government Sector

Security in IraqProblem: A major government contractor working in Iraq required operations staff to manage the regional operations for a major project. The contractor did not know where to source staff with the prerequisite experience and knowledge.
Solution: GVC provided a project manager and staff who were responsible for overall management of the project. This included establishing a “green fields” operating base, and preparing personnel and vehicles to operate in that high risk environment. The operation was successfully conducted without serious injury or loss of life and all mission goals were achieved on time and on target.

Problem: A government aid agency wanted to send representatives into a medium to high risk environment. In order to ensure the safety of staff a Risk Mitigation plan was required. Planning staff did not know where to look for specialist advice on the matter to ensure the safety of staff and the operation.
Solution: GVC was able to provide a Risk Assessment and a written Risk Mitigation Strategy that provided a planned and reasoned approach to mitigating risk. GVC was able to provide independent assistance in the training of staff to be deployed, as well as ongoing assistance throughout the lifecycle of the activity.

Energy Sector

Oil Refinery Security AllianceProblem: A large multi national oilfield service company operating in a number of high and medium risk countries required the creation of a Security Architecture to support operational plans and the business strategy.
Solution: GVC was able to provide a comprehensive security architecture aligned to the strategic business goals of the organisation. This included the production of a Security Manual, Crisis Resolution Planning processes and procedures, training for executive staff in Crisis Resolution as well as the creation of a Crisis Resolution Centre fitted with the technology and equipment needed for large scale crisis resolution activities.

Education Sector

Education SectorProblem: Staff from a well known university routinely travelled to a number of Middle Eastern countries to lecture at partner establishments. The staff were ignorant of the threats that might exist and of where to seek assistance in the event of an incident or accident. One of the lecturers was injured in a terrorist incident and while being treated at a local medical facility contracted a blood borne disease due to unhygienic conditions. Eventually, the overworked local consul was able to arrange assistance and evacuation back to Australia. The university was sued by the staff member and paid a large settlement to avoid further damage to its reputation and that of its staff.

Solution: GVC can review all travel plans and locations and provide a realistic threat assessment to prepare staff for the environment to which they are going. GVC can prepare country briefs for all travel locations which include recommended actions to be taken in the event of injury or illness. GVC can provide recommendations on assistance providers who have an immediate security and medical response capability. GVC is able to brief staff on all locations in the Middle East based on personal experience in High, Medium and Low Risk environments.

Business Sector

Due diligenceProblem: Globalisation has required most companies to expand internationally in order to increase their market share and profitability. Travelling and doing business internationally poses inherent risks and problems for business travellers. These risks range from criminal acts to the horrors of terrorist attacks. Recent events have demonstrated that no location in the world is immune.
Solution: GVC can help prepare staff travelling overseas for their first assignment or their latest trip to any location. In those locations that warrant it, GVC can conduct a risk analysis and provide recommendations on the physical and procedural security requirements, as well as advice on medical providers and information service providers that can assist business travellers.

Problem: An Australian SME is starting a new activity with a joint venture partner in a Middle Eastern country. The SME has no way of knowing who the new JV partner is and if they are an appropriate and reliable person or organisation with which to do business.
Solution: GVC can assist in the provision of discreet due diligence checks on foreign venture partners and provide a confidential report to assist in the decision making process about new ventures.

Leisure Sector

Beautiful KazakhstanProblem: A travel company is considering establishing a tour package to a new and exotic location that had previously been inaccessible due to local political instability and tribal unrest. The travel company had heard from a number of independent travellers that the area was beautiful, and while there were some “issues” they managed to travel through the area just fine. The travel company insurance providers required that a report be written on the area outlining the risks and the mitigation measures in place prior to considering the provision of cover.

Solution: GVC was able to travel to the location and provide an independent, reasoned assessment of the local threat as well as provide a risk management plan. GVC was also able to source local guides and accommodation locations that might be of assistance to the travel company if they decided to go ahead with the venture.
